Maddalena Bellavitis earned her PhD (Doctor Europaeus) at the University of Padua and has held research fellowships and teaching positions at several international institutions, including Dumbarton Oaks, the French Institute of Art History, the center of research of the Musée du Louvre, the Museo del Prado, the Universities of Geneva and Louvain-la-Neuve. After working on artistic geography and Renaissance collections, her most recent research focuses on Renaissance gardens and their relation with courts, art and literature, on women and culture in early modern Europe and on the relation among iconography and texts. She published a book on the collections of Northern paintings in the Region of Venice, Telle depente forestiere. Quadri nordici nel Veneto: le fonti e la tecnica (CLEUP 2010), and she is currently preparing a book on the garden of love in early Renaissance visual and literary sources.
